The third session of the PhDGov online training series took place on 16 June 2025. This live online session focused on doctoral education and early career development in Germany, with contributions from RWTH Aachen University and its partner institutions.
The session was led by Prof. Ghaleb Natour and opened with an introduction to RWTH Aachen University, including key facts and figures related to doctoral education. Presentations then addressed the research and higher education environment in Germany, with particular attention to PhD projects and employment conditions.
Further contributions focused on innovation, technology transfer, and entrepreneurship, as well as the role of the RWTH Aachen Campus and FZ Jülich in supporting doctoral training and employability. The session also covered PhD programme structures, including processes related to supervision, monitoring, and doctoral defence.
In addition, the session addressed early career support and employability, highlighting institutional approaches to supporting early-career researchers. The online training concluded with a Q&A discussion, concluding remarks, and a brief introduction to the next online training session.
